Hidden in this building’s 18th-century architecture are even earlier elements, with its vaulted rooms, monumental staircase leading to the piano nobile, exquisite wall paintings, and decorated wooden ceilings whose embellishments make the different rooms unique.
In these rooms, Ippolito Desideri, the first European traveler to enter Tibet in 1715, was born on 20 December 1684.
Over the centuries, the structure has undergone many changes, but undoubtedly was already inhabited in the Middle Ages, when there were many leather processing businesses in the nearby hamlets of San Prospero and of Prato, the present-day Piazza San Francesco.
The charming Artemura Residence is filled with history, even outside where the early vegetable gardens have now become a secret garden, with an 18th-century fountain against the unique and magnificent backdrop of the limestone apse of the parish church of Sant’Andrea.
For guests, Artemura Residence offers 20 apartments, each one different, where every comfort as well as magnificent views of Pistoia can be enjoyed.
The structure’s property seeks to publicize and promote the local area and its art, hosting various exhibitions, events, and exhibitions in its halls. Go to Residence Artemura’s Facebook page to see what is on the schedule.
